BioNaturaleza Participates in Webinar on Traditional Knowledge and Intellectual Property in Bio-businesses

On April 25, 2025, our co-founder and CEO Álvaro Torres participated in the webinar “Mechanisms for the Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Collective Intellectual Property in Bio-businesses,” organized by the Bio-businesses Ecuador Project and the Heifer Ecuador Foundation, with the support of the GEF, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), and the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Ecological Transition.

This event was part of the #JuevesDeBionegocios (#BioBusinessThursdays), a series of virtual meetings aimed at strengthening the sustainability of native biodiversity through innovation and respect for ancestral knowledge.

During the webinar, the importance of the following topics was discussed:

• Legally protecting the traditional knowledge of communities.

• Promoting collective intellectual property mechanisms in bio-business projects.

• Generating strategies that allow for a balanced integration between modern science and ancestral wisdom, ensuring fair and sustainable benefits for the communities that are guardians of biodiversity.
